In response to this, the Critical Care Network National Nurse Leads (CC3N) formed a sub-group, the Critical Care Nurse Education Review Forum (CCNERF) to address these concerns. A review of UK course provision confirmed marked inconsistency in the length, content and associated academic award. The CCNERF commenced a two-phase project, first developing national standards for critical care nurse education such as length of course and academic credit level, followed by the development of a national competency framework. Following significant review and revision, version two of the National Competency Framework for Registered Nurses in Adult Critical Care was published by CC3N in 2015. This paper introduces the National Competency Framework and provides an overview of its background, development and implementation. It then considers the future direction of UK post-registration Critical Care nurse education.

However, this relationship was not significant regarding demographic variables age, sex, marital status, job title, working experience, education and history of participation in retraining courses on professional rules. Conclusion A significant number of nurses were not adequately aware of professional rules, which can put them and their working organization at serious risks. Some measures such as holding web-based or in-person training courses and providing educational booklets and pamphlets can be helpful in this regard.

Background: This study is the third worldwide review of CCNOs. Two previous surveys were undertaken in 1999–2000 and in 2005. Data were collected from 23 and 51 countries, respectively. Methods: An online descriptive survey was e-mailed to 97 countries with CCNOs or known nursing leaders. Responses were analysed descriptively by geographical region. Results: Sixty-five respondents completed the questionnaire, achieving a 67% return rate. The most common issues identified were teamwork, access to educational programmes, formal practice guidelines/competencies, staffing levels and working conditions. Respondents perceived professional representation, national conferences, practice standards/guidelines, educational course standards, website provision, skills courses and educational workshops as the most important activities that should be provided by national CCNOs. Furthermore, less affluent countries showed greater emphasis on educational and training needs compared with wealthier counties and had poorer access to Internet and other supportive infrastructure. Conclusions: Teamwork, education, development of practice guidelines and workforce remain important issues to critical care nurses and have changed very little over the last 10 years, although the emphasis on teamwork is stronger than a decade ago. Differences in emphasis occur between affluent and less affluent countries and need to be acknowledged. Future research is recommended to better understand those priorities to enable the global community of critical care nurses to respond constructively.

  • This study is the second world survey of critical care nursing organizations (CCNOs). The first survey was undertaken 6 years ago and data were collected from 23 countries over a 2-year period. The aim of the second survey was to profile the issues and activities of critical care nurses and their professional organizations, expanding on the previous survey to obtain both an update of the issues and a wider global perspective. A descriptive survey was emailed to 80 potential responding countries with recognized CCNOs or nursing leaders. Responses were analysed descriptively by geographical region. A total of 51 respondents completed the questionnaire over a 6-month period, achieving a return rate of 64%. The most common issues identified by critical care nurses were staffing levels and teamwork. Other important issues included wages, working conditions and access to quality educational programmes. The respondents perceived national conferences, professional representation, standards for educational courses, provision of a website, and educational workshops and forums as the five most important activities that should be provided for critical care nurses by national CCNOs. Workforce and education issues remain dominant themes among critical care nurses of the world. These issues have changed very little in the last 6 years. Using the World Federation of Critical Care Nurses network of regional CCNOs and critical care nursing leaders has proven to be a successful strategy for the collection of data on world issues and for international communication and support.

Responses were downloaded into Survey Monkey™ (Version 22) and analysed by geographical region and income level. Fifty-nine respondents from 58 countries completed the questionnaire, of whom 43 had critical care nursing organizations established in their countries and 29 were members of the World Federation of Critical Care Nurses. The services provided by the organizations to be of most value were national conferences, website, professional representation, and practice standards and guidelines. Professional policies had been developed by some organizations on workforce, education and practice, while almost half provided their members with either a newsletter or journal. Collectively, the most important issues for critical care nurses were working conditions, provision of formal practice guidelines and competencies, staffing levels and access to quality education programmes. Important issues continue to challenge the specialty of critical care nursing as new developments, priorities, clinical issues and other global events and influences impact critical care nursing worldwide. This study will help guide nursing leaders and policy makers to address the needs of critical care nurses and their patients.     Patricia Jean Leas, 75, critical-care nurse in Delaware County | real questions and Pass4sure dumps

    Patricia Jean Leas, 75, of Lansdowne, a critical-care nurse in Delaware County, died Sunday, Sept. 30, of complications from Parkinson's disease at Devon Senior Living.

    Mrs. Leas, a native of Scranton's Keyser Valley, was the daughter of Henry M. and Helen O. Kowalski. She moved to Philadelphia after graduating from West Scranton High School and settled in Lansdowne, where she remained for the next 35 years.

    She became a licensed practical nurse in 1982 and took further courses so that she could later qualify as a registered nurse.

    She worked in the cardiac unit at Delaware County Memorial Hospital from 1982 to the mid-1990s. Before retiring in 2000, she worked as a field case manager for Aetna, a managed health-care company.

    Georgianna Dunderdale, her longtime friend and colleague, said the two trained in critical-care nursing together. Mrs. Leas chose the cardiac unit at the hospital because she thrived in the intense atmosphere and opportunities to learn advanced nursing.

    "You spent more time with the patients there, and you had to always keep up on things," Dunderdale said. "You had to always be learning."

    Mrs. Leas was "funny, caring, nurturing," Dunderdale said. The two worked the hospital's 3-to-11 p.m. shift often.

    In the 1980s, Mrs. Leas volunteered her nursing skills for six years as a paramedic for the Lansdowne Fire Company, responding to medical emergencies with the ambulance. She had a police scanner at home, and when a call came in, she drove to the firehouse and got on the medical rig. She did basic patient assessment on the way to the hospital but was not qualified to give medication or perform invasive procedures because she wasn't an EMT, Dunderdale said.

    In 1988, Mrs. Leas called Dunderdale and suggested that the two join the Air Force Reserve, so they did, enlisting as first lieutenants and advancing to the rank of captain over the next decade. Mrs. Leas was assigned to McGuire Air Force Base in Burlington County.

    In times of military activation, the two went to the base, where they got supplies ready for troops being deployed overseas. Within their unit, "she was in charge of mobility, I was in charge of medical readiness," Dunderdale said. Mrs. Leas was honorably discharged from the reserve force in March 2003.

    Known to friends and family as "Patsy," she enjoyed cooking, gardening, carpentry, and clock and watch repair, said her niece, Linda Sabatini.

    Dunderdale said that she and Mrs. Leas loved to travel. They toured the Cayman Islands, Key West, Chicago, and Europe. "She was sharp and witty," Dunderdale said. "She made things fun."

    She was the wife of Barry G. Leas, with whom she celebrated 35 years of marriage. He died in May 2006. The couple had no children.

    "Patsy went after what she wanted and didn't worry about others' expectations," her niece said.

    In addition to her niece, she is survived by a sister, Phyllis Messett, and many nieces and nephews.

    A prayer service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2220 S. Sproul Road, Broomall, Pa, 19008. The Rev. Kenneth E. Gelzheiser will officiate. Mrs. Leas donated her body to science.
